Travel > Daily Deal Blog > Q&A: How to get a cheap room at Vegas … - Los Angeles Times(Blogging)

Saturday 30 June 2007 @ 2:20 pm

I am going to Vegas in the middle of August for my 23rd birthday. I’ve done some research for rooms around the time of your birthday in August. If you travel midweek, including your birthday, the rates drop drastically. Obviously, if you roll like the Palms you wouldn’t be caught dead at the Gold Coast (only $59 on the 23rd and they have flat screen TVs and decent soaps! They have rooms for $90/night on your birthday; I would opt for the nicer room at $120. Other than off peak, midweek dates, does anyone have any tips for staying at the Palms for under $150/night? read more

South Africa: You Know Your Blog is Good When You Are Highly … - AllAfrica.com- Blogging

Friday 29 June 2007 @ 2:07 pm

Ritz says the paper pays five dedicated "blogumists" — bloggers who write weekly columns — at a standard industry rate. The same rules apply for a blogger as for any freelance writer — tight copy, in-depth knowledge of the subject, and consistent, on-time delivery will increase the chances of a media brand wanting your head on its totem poll. As ad spend moves online — last year UK advertisers spent £2bn online, just ahead of the £1,9bn spent on newspaper ads — bloggers are hoping that some will come their way. And as they become more business savvy, it becomes likely that their brands will become more valuable — after all, marketing is pretty much the same whether it is getting people to read your blog or buy your newspaper. Blogging - Whole Foods Strikes Back - The Money Times

Sunday 24 June 2007 @ 12:00 pm

The FTC released information to promote its view that Whole Foods is trying to get a stranglehold on the organic market by acquiring Wild Oats. In the spirit of competition, why shouldn’t Whole Foods want to buy Wild Oats if the price is right — and, at the same time, block the possibility that a conventional grocer might snap up a pure-play rival? Wild Oats may be a “super-natural” pure play, but it also hasn’t been firing on all cylinders lately — another relevant point that appears to have been forgotten in all of the FTC ruckus. Yet Mackey’s honest communication — which includes what appears to be very real ire — may very well make him a hero to some, since the public seems so frustrated with regulators, and the specter of corruption, these days. Some of us may feel confident about Whole Foods as a long-term investment, but a messy skirmish with regulators — and judging by Mackey’s comments, “messy” might be an understatement, since the fightin’ words are flying — probably adds a degree of negativity and uncertainty for some people. read more

Topping the list of words most likely to make web users ‘wince, shudder or want to bang your head on the keyboard’ was folksonomy, a term for a web classification system. Earlier this month, the growing use of words inspired by cyberspace was highlighted when the Collins English Dictionary announced that a string of them would be included in their ninth edition. These included ‘me-media’, a term for personal content websites such as Facebook, and ‘godcast’, a religious service which has been converted to an MP3 format.
