Blog closed after mocking civil service - Metro- Topic: Blogging

A blog that appears to come from the heart of the civil service has been shut after ridiculing ministers and public servants. The Civil Serf blog claimed to detail life inside a government department crippled by inept ministers, seven-hour meetings and political infighting. The online journal, which was shut yesterday, purported to be the work of an anonymous 33-year-old civil servant, who described herself as 'a faceless bureaucrat type . References to 'confused' former minister Peter Hain and benefit policy suggested the blogger worked for the department for work and pensions. Her posts over the past four months included a dig at prime minister Gordon Brown dubbed 'Velcro' because bad news stories stick to him, as opposed to his predecessor, 'Teflon' Tony Blair. The blog also claimed that chancellor Alistair Darling would try to use his first budget speech on Wednesday to create 'a cheap headline', while civil service chief Gus O'Donnell was accused of hypocrisy for criticising the treasury, which he worked for two years ago. read more
