Jean-Michel Berg reflects on the power of the blog and how private companies are trying to take advantage of the public platform provided by the net. The “corporate blog” is now a requisite supplement to a company’s obligatory Internet presence. Although anyone is free to comment on a blog, only the blogger writes the blog. But once discussion is limited to the confines set by a company, the discourse is no longer free and the commentary function only suggests freedom, rather than providing it.
